Additional Information:
A urine drug test, also known as a urine drug screen (UDS), is a non-invasive screening method used to detect the presence of drugs and prescription medication metabolites in urine. Urine drug screening is commonly used in professional settings such as clinics, rehabilitation centers, workplaces, and treatment programs, as well as for over-the-counter, at-home screening.
This urine drug test cup utilizes integrated test strips with absorbent lateral flow membrane technology that react to the presence of specific drug metabolites in the urine. The self-contained cup design allows for straightforward specimen collection and screening in a single device, without the need for additional equipment.
Depending on the configuration of the test strips, a single urine sample may be screened for multiple substances at once. These tests are designed to screen for commonly abused drugs and, in some cases, to help monitor compliance with prescribed medications.
Urine drug screens are qualitative screening tests, meaning they indicate whether a substance is present above a predefined threshold known as a cutoff level. Cutoff levels represent the minimum concentration required to produce a positive screening result and are generally aligned with FDA-recognized or industry-standard thresholds. A positive result indicated the potential presence of a substance but does not measure the exact amount present.
For this reason, urine drug screens are considered preliminary. Any positive results used for medical, legal, employment, or forensic purposes should be confirmed by a definitive laboratory test, such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS), which can accurately identify and quantify substance in a specimen with up to 99.999% certainty.
